Michael van Cleven wins Portocolm – the first races in 2016

Last weekend the pro`s and agegroupers took part in four races – the saison 2016 really started now!

In Portocolom Michael van Cleven took the victory over 111km in a hard race, here is his race report:

Swim was good, just waaay to cold for me – only 14 degrees water temperature. At the beginning I had real trouble with the cold and therefore had to leave the first group. On the bike it was me against all the others, perhaps because they know what I cycled there last year. At some point I was losing faith and start to struggle to stay positive because I was not where I wanted to be. But in the second lap they started to crash and drop, they’ve blown themselves up instead of me. So I started to catch them back and got away from them. The last 10k I played everything or nothing and raced from 3th place straight to first and took a cap of 30″ in to T2. Looks like I had the better legs after the bike than the others and could make the cap bigger during the run. So I had the time to celebrate the last 100m and took a walk to the finish. Happy to take my first win for the pewag racing team and really confidence for the coming races!

At the 70.3 Texas Jeremy Jurkiewicz took the 8th place in a fast race with real strong competitors like Andreas Dreitz, Michael Weiss, Andrew Starykowicz and Richie Cunningham. They pushed very hard especially on the bike with an average of 45km/h over the 90K.

Bad Luck continued in Florida: after being involved in a bike crash just a week before the race, our elite athlete David Frazer raced IM 70.3 Haines City. After a solid swim, he started the bike ride in 2nd position but afetr a few kilometers a nail in the tire ended his race…

The 33. Vienna City Marathon took place on sunday and Mario Lepschy and Stefan Gerngross were racing the half marathon. It was cold and windy but nevertheless Mario finished in 01:19:07 and Stefan ran PB in 01:27:43
