Marino Vanhoenacker writes history
On Sunday, Marino Vanhoenacker won the IRONMAN Australia in Port Macquarie, in a new course record.
The Belgian has thus become the first triathlete in the world to win an IRONMAN race on every continent. The now 42-year-old exceptional athlete is thus the first and only human to secure the IRONMAN continental grand slam. Vanhoenacker is quite used to world records: for many years he kept the world record time over the long distance on the IRONMAN racing series and today he is still the record holder of IRONMAN victories, overall – as of today – 17! “To be able to write this story is something very special for me,” says Marino in a first reaction shortly after the race.
He did it again. Marino become the first athlete in the world, who won an Ironman on every continent. What a success. Unbelievable consistent performance throughout the last years. @storckbikesPH @3Tbike @CastelliCycling @Garmin @SchwalbeUK @RideShimano pic.twitter.com/gPktwRa036
